The Zonta Club of South Auckland Inc was established on 7 July 1977 with 46 members, three of whom remain members to this day. The first president of the club was Noeline Walsh. At the time of the establishment of the club, there were 25,000 members in 48 different countries and by 2002 (our 25th anniversary) there were over 35,000 members worldwide.

 Noeline, June and Catherine have given more than 100 years combined service to South Auckland. An amazing contribution from three special women.

A stall at an Ardmore fun fair was the first ever Zonta fundraiser, with money raised going to a quadriplegic who required a new wheelchair. In 2005, over $10,000 was raised to support the gynecological unit at Middlemore hospital, Teen parenting and other Zonta charities. The South Auckland club also sponsored, organised and mentored the establishment of East Auckland and Thames Zonta clubs.

In 1979, the South Auckland club conceived the idea of an education fund to promote education and training with mature women. Denise Heaton was the first recipient in 1983 and received a study grant. In November 2005, various Zonta districts celebrated milestones ranging from 35 – 40 years in New Zealand. In July 2007 Zonta South Auckland celebrated its 30th anniversary.
