Cherry Raymond, QSO – Regional Representative 1972 – 1974
Sadly Cherry passed in 2006. We acknowledge her commitment to Zonta and contribution to enabling District 16 to grow. Cherry was Charter President of the Auckland Club of Auckland, she was appointed a member of the international Relations Committee, the Zonta Editorial Board and Chair of the Status of Women committee. She was elected to the International Nominating Committee.
Dr Judith Dey, AO – Governor 1974 – 1976
Judith was a charter member of the Zonta Club of Auckland, co-chair of the Sydney Convention ad a member of multiple Zonta International committees.
Beverley Shore-Bennett, MBE – Governor 1976 – 1978
Beverley was the Charter President of the Zonta Club of Wellington. Beverley was appointed as a member of the International Public Affairs Committee and elected to the International Nominating Committee.
Elizabeth Todd – Governor 1978 – 1980
Elizabeth Todd was a Charter member and later President of the Zonta Club of Sydney. She served on many Zonta International committees, including co-chair and chair of the International Nominating Committee, a member of the International Service Committee, the Long Range Planning Committee and of the International Convention Committee.
Jeanne Edgar, QSM – Governor 1980 – 1982 (deceased)
Jeanne was a Charter member of the Zonta club of Christchurch-Canterbury. She was a New Zealand member of the International Relations Committee, Sydney Convention Committee, Co-Chair Membership and Classification Committee, Long Range Planning Committee and elected to the International Nominating Committee.
The Hon Leneen Forde, AC – Governor 1982 – 1984
Leneen served as the 22nd Governor of the State of Queensland from 1992 – 1997. She was the first Australian Zontian to become Zonta International President (1990 – 1992). In 1993 she was appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia in recognition of her service to law, to improving the status of women and to economic and business development. Among her many public service roles she chaired the commission of Inquiry into Abuse of Children in Institutions (Australia) from 1998 to 1999. She is a Dame of Grace in the Order of St John of Jerusalem and was the 1991 Queenslander of the Year.
Valerie Webster – Governor 1984 – 1986 (deceased)
Val was a Charter member of the Zonta Club of Hawke’s Bay and transferred to Tauranga in 1988. She was one of the first Area Directors elected for District 16 and one of the initial 100 centurions appointed worldwide. She was appointed as member of the International Organisation and Extension Committee and District 16 International Nominating Sub-Committee.
Val Sarah, AM, DGSJ – Governor 1986 – 1988
Val was Charter President of the Zonta Club of Ballarat in 1978 and elected International President in 1998 – 2000. Val was honoured as a Member of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 2001 ‘for services to women internationally, and to the community through cultural, social welfare and youth organisations’. In 2012 Val was invested as a Dame of Honour in the Order of St John of Jerusalem Knights Hospitaller.
Susan Laidlaw, JP – Governor 1988-1990
Initially a member of the Zonta club of Manawatu, then a member of the Zonta Club of Waimakariri but no longer an active Zontian. Susan was appointed Co-Chair and member of the International Z Club committee, member of the Membership & Classification Committee and Organisation & Extension Committee. She was elected as an International Director 1990 – 1992.

Joan-Mary Longcroft, QSM, JP – Governor 1992 – 1994
John-Mary was a Charter member of the Zonta Club of Auckland and was elected a member of the Zonta International Foundation Board.
Mary Kincaid – Governor 1994 -1996 (deceased)
Mary was a Charter member of the Zonta Club of Christchurch South before joining the Zonta Club of Christchurch North. She was appointed to the International ZISVAW Committee and was elected to the International Nominating Committee.
Joan Ready – Governor 1996 – 1998
Joan was a member of the Zonta Club of Auckland and although no longer a member of Zonta, she continues to support Zonta activities.
Jean Corbin Thomas, MNZM, JP – Governor 1998 – 2000
Member of the Zonta Club of Manawatu. Jean was appointed as a Zonta International Foundation Ambassador and Literacy Co-ordinator, a member of the International Status of Women Committee, ZISVAW Committee, International ByLaws & Resolutions Committee.
Jan Bowman, MNZM – Governor 2000 – 2002 (deceased)
Jan was a member of the Zonta Club of Auckland. She was elected as an International Director 2003 – 2005, appointed as a member of the International Strategic Planning Task Force, International Organisation and Membership & Classification Committee and was a member of the International Legislative Awareness and Advocacy Committee.
Lynn McKenzie, ONZM – Governor 2002 – 2004
Lynn is a member of the Zonta Club of Wellington. She was an elected International Director 2004 – 2006. Lynn was President of Zonta International 2012 – 2014, the highest elected position in Zonta International ever attained by a member of District 16. Lynn has also been the regional representative on the Zonta International Foundation Centennial Endowment Campaign Committee.
Maxilyn Tudman – Governor 2004 – 2006
Maxilyn was a member of the Zonta Club of Auckland North Shore and is now a Zonta International Individual member. She was a past member of Zonta International Membership Committee 2008 – 2012 and was a member of the Z & Golden Z Zonta International Committee 2012 – 2014.
Lynette Grave – Governor 2006 – 2008
Lynette is a Charter member of the Zonta Club of Metropolitan Dunedin and was a District 16 Foundation ambassador for three bienniums. Lynette has also been a Regional Representative – Zonta International Foundation Centennial Endowment Campaign Committee.
Anne Walker – Governor 2008 – 2010
Anne is a member of the Zonta club of Manawatu. She has served Zonta International in a Risk Management role for several biennium, generously sharing her expertise.
Anne McMurtrie – Governor 2010 – 2012
Anne is a member of the Zonta Club of Christchurch South. Since completing her term as Governor, Anne has been the District JMK Women in Business Scholarship Chairman and the D16 Foundation Ambassador (2022 – 2022).
Maureen Heine – Governor 2012 – 2014
Maureen is past chairman of the Zonta International Leadership Development Committee. She was a member of the Zonta Club of South Auckland prior to transferring to the Zonta Club of Auckland in 2014. She has recently made the decision to not renew her Club membership and we thank her for her support of Zonta.
Dr Janette Irvine, ONZM – Governor 2014 – 2016
Janette is a member of the Zonta Club of Rotorua and has served as the District 16 Centurion.
Janet Hope, QSM – Governor 2016 – 2018
Janet is a member of the Zonta Club of East Auckland and a former member of the Zonta Club of Hibiscus Coast. She is a former International Nominating Committee member and a former International Committee Chair of the Young Women in Public Affairs Award. Janet is the current D16 Foundation Ambassador.
Souella Cumming, ONZM, DStJ – Governor 2018 – 2020.
Souella is a member of the Zonta Club of Wellington. She is a former Director of Zonta International & the Zonta Foundation for Women. She is the current Treasurer/Secretary for the Zonta International Board and the Zonta Foundation for Women Board.
Desirae Kirby – Governor 2020 – 2022
Desirae is a member of the Zonta Club of Rotorua and formerly a member of the Zonta Club of Bundaberg in Queensland where she served on the District 24 Board. Desirae is a former District 16 Parliamentarian and Bylaws Committee Chair. She is currently a member of the Zonta International Foundation Development Committee and the D16 UN WEPs representative.
