About this Annual International Campaign
Since 1919 Zonta International has advocated and contributed to Building a Better World for Women and Girls.
Since 2012 we have held our New Zealand “Zonta Says NO” Campaigns. This is a global initiative by Zonta International aimed at ending violence against women and girls. This campaign raises awareness, advocates for systemic changes, and supports programs to eliminate gender-based violence. By uniting voices worldwide, Zonta members and other allies around the world make a stronger message. We strive to create a world where no woman lives in fear of violence.
In District 16 we have “lit up the world orange” (to paint a brighter future) during the international 16 days of Activism. And, we also use Orange as a one of the main colours in Zonta to draw attention to this incredibly sad and avoidable statistic.
In 2022 in New Zealand alone the official statistics were 175,000 Police call outs to domestic abuse. In 2023, in these statistics were even worse, now up to 178,000 Police call outs.
We need to keep our voices loud, strong and clear with the message to be seen to stop all violence against women and girls. This information was used as a powerful message at the Zonta D16 Christchurch Conference. The visual impact of 175 pairs of shoes painted orange, each pair of shoes representing 1000 domestic abuse call outs, was poignant and shocking.
This is not ok, and all of us at Zonta are committed to Zonta Says NO! to Violence Against Women.
